Dental Disease
A high percentage of dogs and cats will suffer from dental disease in their lifetime. In some breeds, we see dental disease start at an early age often as young as between 1 and 2.
Some of the common signs are:
- Redness of gums and tartar accumulation
- Bad odours from the mouth
- Excessive drooling
- Wiggling teeth/loss of teeth
Unfortunately most dogs and cats are unable to let us know how painful dental disease must be.
Daily brushing is the best tool for keeping a healthy mouth and smile! In cases where brushing is not possible, dental diets can help reduce tartar buildup.
Dental Scaling and polishing under anesthesia is recommend at early stages of disease to help control gingivitis ( inflammation of gums) and prevent loss of teeth.
